Annual Salado Christmas Project

Salado Family Relief brings Christmas to 150+ Salado children every year

For more than a quarter of a century, Salado Family Relief Fund has been providing Christmas gifts to Salado children.

It is able to do so only through the generosity of the community, according to SFRF President JR Lett. SFRF works with local churches, youth groups, school groups, civic organizations, businesses and individuals to collect toys, cash donations and bikes to give to Salado children.

The total gift amounts average $75-100 per child, with no one gift more than $50 per child.

The SFRF works with Communities in Schools coordinator Jessica Halfmann and Salado ISD to distribute forms to Salado ISD families. Families that may qualify complete the forms in November and submit them to the board. After the family qualifies, it is assigned to a church, a civic group, a business or an individual that agrees to purchase the gifts requested.

The gifts are distributed to the family on set dates and times in December at the Presbyterian Church of Salado. “The Presbyterian Church has been so gracious to offer us space each year for this project. We could not do it without them,” Lett said.

Salado Masonic Lodge members purchase bikes and helmets for the children who request them and brings them to the Christmas distribution at Presbyterian Church of Salado.

Monetary donations are used to supplement and to purchase gifts for those families that are not assigned to a group. “Any amount helps,” Lett says.
